In 1998, Dr. A. H. Mehrassa, from Canada, was appointed as the Principal. Facilities have been improved and new policies and programmes introduced. A new moral class curriculum for the Secondary Section was launched with the assistance of Mr. Sharif Rushdy of N.E.D.I. A service programme has been started in the Middle School under the guidance of Mrs. Ruth Singh, educational advisor from Australia. Appointed by the Organization of Social and Economic Development (O.S.E.D.), of the Baha’i World Centre, she has for the past several years been giving professional guidance for the Academic and Moral development programmes of the school. Several new classes and programmes have been instituted. These include, voc ational classes, early morning fitness training, sports clubs, and advanced com- puter classes. Subject faculties have been strengthened and educational field trips regularized. The Computer Department and Remedial Section ere exp- anded. Peace education and cooperative learning, under the guidance of Dr. Tim Rost, have been introduced in the Primary Section. The work of the faculties (subject depts.) to improve the teaching-learning process in different subjects has been given more importance. The physical plant has been improved with the setting up of a metal and carpentry workshops, installation of an 80 kilowatt generator, the addition of three large iron gates and fencing, a new intercom system, a direct dialing and voice phone system for students, parents and staff, putting a protective roof over the main classroom building and front of the Computer Dept., drilling of three bore wells, installing solar heating for the dining hall (washing facilities), creating a large garden and play areas around Hadden House, installing playground equipment in front of Clifton and Asphandiar dormitories and general improvements in the food and dining hall facilities. For professional staff training and efficiency, computers have been placed in the offices and staff rooms. Software for comprehensive processing and accessing of student records has been installed. The Accounts Section is fully computerized. Maintenance, Personnel, Supplies, and Stationery are soon to follow suit. Students send e-mail to their parents. The school has been put on a solid financial foundation with a careful and disciplined approach. Clear policies of staff and student discipline have been defined. A public relations officer has been appointed. The school is increasing its contact with parents and alumni.The school web site has been launched on the internet. The school continues to move forward with plans for constructions, and improvements and development in morals, academic, vocational, and service programmes. Our Ultimate Goal: It is to do our utmost to lay a solid groundwork for the realization of the Beloved Guardian’s vision, that New Era will become a premier institution, an outstanding example for others in developing good character in its students as well as one day becoming a leading university.
