Pleasures of Reading

Namrata Khanna – Std. 9

Reading is one of the most liked hobbies of today. Books are a great source of entertainment and give us quite a lot of knowledge. They provide good vocabulary and develop one's mind.

Nowadays, there are many types of books available. You get story books, novels, quiz books and so on. A few of the best sellers are the Famous Five series, The Secret Seven Series, Sydney Sheldon, Paulo Coelho, Harry Potter. These books are read all over the world with great enthusiasm .

Reading develops the ability to express oneself in front of others. It helps us to talk on certain subjects. A person who has a good command over his language is always respected in the society. It increases our thinking ability and builds confidence in us to interact with people.

Reading enhances our world of imagination. It takes you to a completely different world. For example, if you are reading about a geographical place, you can guess how and where the place would be.

Reading the newspaper also helps us as it gives us all the information about what is happening in the world. If you are reading a joke book, it immediately lightens up your mood. You feel refreshed and happy.

Though reading does not have any bad effect, it is agreeable that excess of anything is bad. Too much of reading at one time may spoil our eyes.

Reading gives us pleasure and calms our brain. Most people prefer reading when they are relaxing . Reading is a very good habit. It is my advice to everyone to develop this good habit.
