Information & Communication Technology

New Era High School continues with its Open Source Technologies in an advanced user level and the ICT team is still exploring maximum possibilities in Open Source for the future.

The school has three well equipped computer labs. The Secondary Section has two labs one with 32 computers for classes VI to X of CBSE board and another lab with 15 computers for the IGCSE students. The Primary section also has a well equipped lab of 17 computers.

We mostly use Mandriva 2007and Fedora Core 7 Linux Operating systems on all our computers. All departments spread over the campus are connected to the main network and have separate FTP servers for data transfer and storage for both staff and students.

The Iyengar learning Center at the Primary section has three computers that is used constantly for Primary staff training and for the dyslectic and slow learners.

The newly established Primary Library has five multimedia computers with lots of educational software, stories and educational games.

Internet

We provide Internet services through one 128kbps ISDN line and three 256kb Broadband lines for Internet connectivity. All the systems in the school campus has access to Internet 24x7. Students use Internet for educational purpose with the guidance of the teachers.

Technology In Classroom

As education moves increasingly from the realm of books and papers to instructional technology, our teachers incorporate technology into the classrooms, with a focus on developing students thinking skills. Students are given projects which improves their technical skills to understand the usage of technologies as tools for gathering, assessing and sharing information.

We have Advanced Computer Classes were our students are trained in video editing, hardware, Pixel editing in GIMP and web designing.

The school has two smart boards installed one in the primary and the other in the secondary to make the teaching learning process more interesting than the traditional 'chalk and board' method.

Curriculum

The primary curriculum consist of - Introduction to computers, Keyboard and Mouse skills. Ktouch, Kpaint, Abhiword & Openoffice writer & KDE desktop on Fedora Core 5.

The secondary curriculum consist of - basic and advanced concepts Hardware, Software and OpenOffice 2.2 (Writer, Calc, database, Presentation, etc). The students are also taught the latest trend in Internet and cyber ethics.

IGCSE

The objective of IGCSE curriculum is to enhance the practical skills in website authoring, word processor, spreadsheet, database, data integration and Internet. The curriculum also stresses the knowledge and understanding of the complete computer system and its application in today´s life, networking of information-processing systems, methods of system analysis and design and computing terminology.
