Responsibility and Applied Learning |
| Students need to be taught how to
responsibly and effectively use technology to gather information,
process it, put it to practical use and communicate the results. |
Our team of highly skilled teachers and
technical staff help and guide students, encouraging them to integrate
computers into every area of study.
|
Reducing Carbon Footprint |
The IT Dept. has help reduce the carbon
footprint of the School by networking all the departments together and
reducing paper consumption. The Department also
invests in energy saving equipment.
|
Aims of the ICT Department |
- To provide students and staff with the skills and knowledge
that will enable them to use the ICT facilities in order to develop and
enhance their work throughout the school.
- To help students use ICT in finding solutions to problems
in different subject areas.
- To provide students with the training that they require for
the applications in IT.
- To nurture students natural enthusiasm for ICT and
encourage them to develop skills to enhance student learning and
presentations.
- To co-ordinate the use of Information and Communications
Technology throughout the school.
- To prepare students for a world in which the use of ICT is
commonplace.

Curriculum |
Information Technology is
taught for two periods per week for all classes. The scheme of work
broadly follows CBSE and IGCSE guidelines. Internet safety and
responsible use of new technologies is encouraged throughout. Students
are also taught to use industry standard software in producing websites.
|
Facilities, Programmes and Equipment |
| The school's computer and communication
network provides state-of-the-art computing facilities and broadband
Internet connectivity. We have three broadband connections with a
separate broadband for students. |
| A new School Management Software to record
student progress in all areas of study and other activities has been
installed. |
There are over 125 desktop computers and 3
servers in school along with laptops. We have three computer labs
which can accommodate three classes at a time with 1:1 student-computer
ratio. Our Secondary staffroom is also well equipped with
computers. The teachers have unlimited access to the Internet
which enhances their teaching work.
|
| The Primary and Secondary
libraries are also equipped with computers for students to access
educational CDs. The Iyenger Learning Centre, which helps the
foreign students in English and Math, also has computers to enhance the
students learning and understanding capability. There is a
separate lab for Cambridge based IGCSE. |
The school has separate Audio
Visual rooms for the Primary and Secondary
with projectors and electronic smart boards.
|
Most of the computers in our school run on
Open Source software. Our team of technical experts constantly
upgrades our operating systems. We have both SUSE 11 and Mandriva
2009 Power Pack operating systems for our desktops and Fedora Core for
our servers. We also have a Windows 2003 server based network for
our Tally system in our Main Office.
|
| The FTP servers (File Transfer Protocol) in
the school help both students and staff to backup their assignments and
data. |

|
Internet and E-Mail System for Students |
The network covers the whole school, and
students have monitored internet access for their projects. The
school has an effective Internet filter and a proxy server that
prevents students accessing inappropriate sites.
|
| All students are taught how to use our
Email system responsibly. The students can also access the school
email system from outside the school. All our students are
provided with their own email accounts. |
