World Aids Day: Students of Secondary School Participated in the awareness rally of World Aids Day with slogan banners and placards in their hands. The rally, organized by Bel Air Hospital, with all the major schools in Panchgani, started from Mahatma Phule School and concluded in a massive gathering at New Era.Mr. Kanamadi, Head of the Secondary School, gave the main address on HIV and AIDs.
It is the wise choice to speak openly about HIV/AIDS. Informing and educating people is an effective means to solve the problem.
Ten years ago $75,000,000/- was given in one year in a global fund for HIV/AIDS medicine and education programmes. In ten years this amount has increased to thirty times more. But instead of declining, the number of HIV/AIDS cases has greatly increased.
The problem is serious. AIDS is the most destructive of diseases in human history. 4.3 million people have been infected by it in 2008 alone. India’s National AIDS Control organization estimates that 1,24,995 Indians have AIDS. It is estimated that there are over 5,700,000 having HIV/AIDS in the world. Last year alone, 5,00,000 people died of AIDS. In India, every day, 7500 people are newly infected with it. After South Africa, India has the most cases of people with HIV/AIDS.
Some families do not want to treatment because they are ashamed to say one family member
has AIDS. Sometimes a patient is buried in the dead of the night so no one will know they
had AIDS.
Young people and others need to know more about HIV/AIDS. The HIV/AIDS virus spreads by sexual contact, direct injections with contaminated needles or blood and mother’s milk. A mother may give it to her baby before it is born. It is easily spread by sex workers and drug users. Illiteracy and ignorance are the main causes here.
What is needed: We should guide our neighbours for prevention of getting the HIV/AIDS virus. We should try our best to help and support in the treatment and care of HIV/AIDS patients. AIDS is a non curable disease. Only with proper treatment can one’s life be prolonged.
Schools should educate the students about HIV/AIDS and teach them to educate their friends and neighbours, and to provide moral support to HIV/AIDS patients.
