personal worth, dignity and efficiency and at strengthening in them the
desire for self improvement and social service.
VOCATIONAL
TRAINING AT NEW ERA
The purpose of a school is
to
provide an environment in which children learn to become self-reliant
and grow into an individual who channelizes their energies
for the
well-being of humanity. In reality “ child is potentially the
light of the world and at the same time its darkness”.
Keeping
this fact in mind that the child has latent capacities to emerge as a
potent and positive force in today’s world, the New Era
School
has introduced various educational innovations in its curriculum.
Vocational training programme is one such avenue wherein children
develop their psycho- motor and social skills. Service to society is
one of the motto of the school and the spirit of service is being
inculcated in the students at all levels of their education at New Era.
This programme has been viewed as a positive and meaningful manual
activity. It comprises multifarious activities programmed in accordance
with the interests, abilities and skills hidden in young minds.
“Theoretical
study must be extended to both the practical application of theory and
the execution of these applications. If a student actually raises a
crop, makes a garment, prepares a nutritious meal, or built a cabinet
as part of the educational experience, the student has not only
acquired the rudiment of a skill that will allow him/her to begin to
function independently, but has also greatly improved the possibility
of successfully applying underlying theoretical knowledge in new ways.
In the vocational classes
children get opportunities to handle and manipulate various materials,
to know their origin, the places of procurement and the relation
between the materials. It enhances the creativity of children to a
great extent. The aim of the vocational programme is to
enrichandexploit the untapped potentialities in a child and make them
feel that they are capable of creating something worthwhile. The child
gets appreciation from others. The joy and happiness the child gets
after the completion of the assigned work is immensely fulfilling.
Inthe vocational class children need to correlate many concepts that
they have learnt in the classes of other subjects. It enables the child
to develop positive attitude towards learning and avoid the monotony of
long hours of academic learning in the usual classroom situation. The
spiritual and moral values like cooperation, respect forothers and
their things, consideration, sharing, caring etc are also instilled in
them as a result of attending the vocational classes.
